Sunset is prime time for capturing those magical family moments with the perfect lighting. But hey, I get it - keeping the little ones chipper and awake until then can be a concern for many parents. Don't worry! Here are some tried-and-tested tricks to make sure your family photo session goes off without a hitch!

Tip 1 - Stay cool, calm and collected

Oh, I get it! The chaos leading up to the big photo day can be overwhelming. Weather worries, outfit coordination, nap schedules—it's a lot to juggle. And let's not forget the race against the clock to make it to the photo spot on time! Kids are like little energy detectors, picking up on mom's vibes. Staying calm is key. Take it slow with their nap routine, whether it's a relaxing bath or a bedtime story marathon.

Tip 2 - Bedtime shuffle

If bedtime usually happens before sundown, consider gradually pushing it back in the days leading up to your session. Afterwards, ease them back into their usual routine.

Or you can simply try to keep your child awake a little longer on the session date and aim for them falling asleep in the car on your way home... It's just like attending an exciting family celebration with this little extra wake time!

Tip 3 - full belly, happy hearts

A hungry tummy equals a cranky kiddo. Make sure everyone has a good meal a couple of hours before the shoot, and stash some snacks for backup.

Just make sure they're not gonna make a big mess and ruin your carefully selected outfits! Cherry stains on a white dress can add some extra stress to mommies schedule.

Tip 4 - Amp up the anticipation

Get them buzzing with excitement by chatting about the upcoming photoshoot day. Paint a picture of all the fun you'll have and how it's going to be extra special. Maybe mention that Dad might swing by a bit earlier from work or hint at a post-shoot ice cream treat. And here's a sneaky twist: Surprise them with a shopping trip for a fancy outfit beforehand, so they're counting down the days with eager anticipation.

Tip 5 - explore new territory

Opt for a photo spot they've never seen before. New surroundings can captivate their attention, keeping thoughts of bedtime at bay.

So instead of sticking to the same old park down the street, why not explore one of the suggested photo locations from your photographer?

Tip 6 - Sneaky backup

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, a meltdown is looming. Pack a secret weapon—a favorite toy or cozy blanket—as a last resort. It's like an insurance policy for smiles.
